Do the Opposite!

I don't want to jinx it too soon, but it seems I have started to lose this horrible winter weight.

After struggling for close to a year, what has turned things around? - I'm doing the exact opposite of what I have been doing for the last 12 months.

Before: Exercise = weights
After: Exercise = cardio (running)

Before: Food = low carb
After: Food = low(ish) fat

And the result has been a skinnier me. I actually woke up this morning and felt smaller. I knew before I stepped on the scales that I was lighter. I am firmly back in the 64's and have the 63's within my sights.

Obstinately, I haven't wanted to stop eating low-carb because I enjoy fatty food - chicken skin, cheese, nuts. But it appears that by reducing the fat and increasing my carbs has resulted in my body using my body fat for fuel rather than dietary fat. Now I am not sure if it is the combination of Carbs|Protein|Fat that is the magic potion, it may be that it is just different to what my body is used to.

All I can say is brown rice, bananas, skim milk and rice crackers never tasted so good.

I am loving my running. I did break the 30 minute mark for 5k on Saturday, but I suspect that my N1k3+ is a little short on distances. I guess I will find out on Sunday on the Bridge Run.

I am a little concerned about an old injury in my knee that has flared up since I started running. I know that I should probably ease off and not run everyday but I am indeed an endorphin junky. Contrary to other people's experience, I find that treadmill running is harder on my joints than the road. My knee is sore today after intervals on the tready last night.

The gorgeous Kitty's** advice is my new mantra:

I've cracked out 4 kilometres on the treddy. All 4 kilometres were to the tune of 15% incline which is as far as my pussy-treadmill goes. I also kept the speed between 6.5 and 10.5ks which is a mofo at 15% incline. If you want to get thinner here's some advice from the Shrinking Cat:

DO EXERCISE LIKE THAT EVERY DAY AND IT WILL HAPPEN, NO QUESTION. YOU CAN EVEN EAT WHATEVER YOU LIKE, IT WON'T MATTER.

** warning - 0ral s8x post in her blog tonight - not for the faint hearted!

Wasn't there an episode of Seinfeld where George did everything the opposite, and things started going really well for him? I'm sure there was!! :)
