Quickie

Just a quick update to let you know I made it through yesterday. No trophy (and they gave out 5 in each division!) and no tiara. My final weigh in yesterday morning at 5am was 54.8kg so I made my goal (with a bit of dehydration assistance).

I will post pictures, a full report and a debrief later when I get some time.

The short version of my experience is ...

I don't need to go through the physical and psychological rigours of competition day to feel good about myself when I already feel amazingly proud of what I look like. The whole tanning, dehydration, sodium depletion, rice cakes/honey carb loading, fake nails/eyelashes and hooker shoes all seems rather pointless when I don't need external validation of my achievements.

I hope I don't sound like a sore loser, and that you think I would feel differently if I had placed. I don't think it would have made a difference. I feel healthier, fitter and prouder this morning after an RPM class and a bowl of porridge than I have for the last 2 weeks.

Contest prep was great discipline and focus for me, but the things I learnt about myself along the way are much more valuable than standing on a stage, looking like someone who wasn't even close to who I am, for 5 minutes yesterday. I have done it, ticked it off the list, and now it is time to get on with living a HEALTHY life.

(not a very short version I know!)

  3. Congrats Katie. I have had a few people ask me at the gym if I was going in a comp because of my training. My answer was I dont need someone else to tell me I look good, when I know I do.
Your effort was second to none. Cant wait to see the pics.

I'll bet you were the damn best looking girl in the RPM room!! You must be quite intimidating to the instructors who couldn't possibly be in as great condition as you are in. Congratulations are definately in order here for making it thru your first competition. The contest is in the journey to the stage, we all know only one person can win it...it's the same with running a marathon yet it doesn't make our efforts mean anything less to us. What tremendous commitment you have to the fitness!!!

  6. Hi Katie,

what a refreshing positive attitude you have about the whole comp experience and where you want to go from here. Its a unique experience and certainly not for the feint hearted so achieving the goal of making onto the stage is brilliant work indeed.

I wish you all the best for your future, living lean and healthy everyday because thats what you choose.

NOW GET SOME PICS UP GIRL!!!

To get where you have is an amazing feat. You definitely do not sound like a sore loser - quite the opposite.

Hope you get time to enjoy your 'trophy' garden!

  12. Congratulations on achieving your goal!

I like your attitude... it's never about the prize anyway (a crappy plastic trophy and a tub of protein powder is hardly worth all the effort, is it?), but as you say, the journey is every bit as important as the end result.

    Photos, please!!
