Zero Weight Gain Challenge

It occurred to me that everyone [me included] is always posting weight LOSS challenges on their blogs. Now aside from the negative language around the phrase weight loss [I would rather focus on winning than losing] this is not necessarily a bad thing.

What does worry me is that we celebrate losing weight like it is the primary focus of our lives. Now I know that it kind of is, but what happens when we don't want to or need to lose more weight? What do we celebrate? What motivates us to eat clean and workout? Having reached my goal before, let me tell you getting there and staying there is a little [lot!!] anti-climatic.

So my mission is to celebrate STAYING THE SAME. Now this is hard to do, even skinny folk have a range of weight fluctuations. So here is my idea.

I am starting a ZERO WEIGHT GAIN competition.
1. Decide what the upper most limit of your weight will be - this is your goal. So for me it is 63kg at the moment.
2. You can't pick a weight that you haven't been under for less than 4 weeks. If you are still trying to lose that last little bit, you can reset your goal once you have been under for 4 weeks. So I can move to 62kgs once I have weighed in the 61.0 range for a month. Eventually under 60kg is my final destination.
3. Each week you weigh in and celebrate a ZERO WEIGHT GAIN week. Losses and gains are incidental as long as you stay under that magic number.

Here's the best part - with this approach I have been successful at staying under 80kg for over 2 years! Although my goal has reduced, if I look at it this way, I have had my weight under control for all this time.

Now that is something to celebrate don't you think?

I have started a new blog dedicated to this challenge http://thin-enough-challenge.blogspot.com/

I would love others to join me. Just leave me a comment either here or on the new blog and I will add your name to the list. Just because we are not LOSING kilos every week doesn't mean we aren't achieving something great - we are NOT GAINING and haven't gained for a very very long time.

What do you reckon???

    Hey Katie,
I had to smile when I read your post and the bit about getting to goal and staying there being an anti-climax... I totally agree with you and feel that this is why I have continued to lose weight... I havent had the chllenge that losing gave me by maintaining so have just continued to lose.... I am going to get to 52kg then join you on your zero weight gain challenge.....
I really love reading your blog... you are a real inspiration for me!!!
