A Blast from the Past

When you have kept all of your weight off [more or less...] for more than 18 months, the compliments stop. Some people you meet have no idea that you ever used to be overweight. They even sometimes assume you are one of those people who can eat anything and not gain weight [I wish!!].

So it was a nice surprise to run into someone I haven't seen for about 4 years today. Georgia and I worked together on a major project in 2003 and haven't crossed paths since.

So I was showered with compliments -- she said the nicest things about how young and different I looked. You know the type of thing -- I won't bore you with it!

The best part was that I probably appreciated these compliments more than the ones I got when the weight was coming off. I think it is because I realised that I had achieved my goal in 2005 and now in 2007 I am still significantly smaller, happier and healthier than I was before.

I don't know what else to say except it was so unexpected and therefore so ... I don't know ... NICE!!!

I tell myself that I have done this for me, not anyone else, and I don't need other people's validation or approval to feel good about myself. And that is still true. I don't need other people to comment on the changes I have fought hard for, but it still makes me feel rather proud and happy to get compliments once in a while. More like the icing [made with cream cheese and Splenda] on the cake.

PS Georgia is in her 20s and skinny.

  1. Hi Katie
If you move around, this phenomena is even worse. I've done a couple of moves since my weight loss and everyone tells me now that I have great genetics (which is a crock of sh*T )

    Keep training hard,

  2. PS - You are not eating enough carbohydrate to support any training ;)

Hope you don't mind me saying this.
