My born again Christian mother was right after all. She warned me that doing yoga would lead to encounters with Eastern philosophy which would lead to being possessed by evil yogi spirits. *grins*
Let me first state that the ONLY thing I believe in categorically is that everyone, and I mean everybody in this big wide world, has the right to discover their own spiritual path.
So my lighthearted opening statement is not meant to disrespect any born again Christian reading this (I can't imagine that my blog would appeal to very many of those though...) or disrespect motherhood as a important profession but simply a snapshot of where I've come from.
It is with joy that I announce my dirty secret (although I am light years away from coming "out" to my mother). I am going to be a Buddhist.
Now I can't give you a clever bulletpoint synopsis of who and what Buddhists believe in. All I know is that I don't have to believe in anything that I don't discover myself.
The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description... If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it should be Buddhism. ~Albert EinsteinI have started on my path to enlightenment ...
[Of course there is a book to go along with this new venture "Awakening the Buddha Within" by Lama Surya Das]
PS: The photo is of "Green Tara" a female Buddha who has a much nicer figure than that jolly little round bloke!
