In search of the answer to the mystery of the weight gain, I got some insights from my new friends at the low-carb site www.apinchofhealth.com
They suggested that I was in "starvation" mode. Putting your body in a greater than 500-600 calories a day deficit [from food and exercise] stalls everything! Especially if you are a dieting queen and really close to goal weight.
I did some research and ran some numbers on http://www.weight-loss-for-women-over-40.com/bmr-calorie-needs-calculator.htm
The results are in:
BASAL METABOLIC RATE: 1472 calories/day
DAILY CALORIE NEEDS (lightly active): 2023 calories/day
So even without exercise, I need to eat at least 1400 calories a day. More if I workout.
Oh my God - that is unbelievable and SCARY!!
Last week I ate an average of 1,150 calories a day and burnt an additional 243 calories in exercise. According to the above formula I was short 493 calories a day! Trying to function on over 1,000 calories a day DEFICIT! Could be ... starvation mode ... maybe :)
As an experiment, I'll try eating MORE for a few days - can't be worse than last weeks result.
Wish me luck my friends.
