BFL Challenge Week 3 Day 21

I cried this morning when the scales read 64kg. That is a gain of 0.8kg. I was 63.3 yesterday so I don't know what is going on. On the brighter side, my AVERAGE was 63.8 which is less than last week's 63.95 which means I am shrinking.

My photos are a little disappointing as well. There is no real change from the back so you only get front photos today.

I appear to have lost the line that goes all the way down my front - which is a BAD thing. I look smaller but mushier. *sigh*

On further inspection it appears this week has been about the lumps at the tops of my thighs which seem to have smoothed out.

I guess I can't expect earth shattering results every week.

I just keep on keeping on - I am not quitting this challenge, I'll see it through to the end if it kills me!

  2. What did you eat the last couple of days? Looks like a fluid increase to me....it'll disappear again, don't worry.

Katie, it always bothers me to hear of someone crying because the scales showed an increase, especially when the increase is over one day.

I'm not going to tell you what to do but this is what *I* do to banish scale error (and water uptake caused by carbohydrate/dry food intake):

I weigh myself *UP* to 3 times a day. Notice that I said up to, not every day but when I can be bothered, I do so. I then enter the value after each weigh in my computers spreadsheet, with a correction factor to allow for the fact that some weighs are naked, some dressed and some in the evening. This correction factor is pretty easy to calculate, just take the average of the differences over about 5 days and you've got them.

I then graph the points with each weigh in 1/3 of the day along the horizontal axis. I then 'by sight' estimate the actual weight that I've been in each weigh in. I know that it sounds complicated but I know you can use a spreadsheet and this is quite easy with my spreadsheet of choice Excel 97.

This method elimates erroneous values - if one reading is 500g over the previous one, you know that the scales are playing mind games with you. Similarly if it shows 500g less than the previous one, you know to ignore the drop.

Mail me at m8i8h8a8v8o8c8@hotmail.com (remove the numbers) if you need help with the spreadsheet if you want to do it.

  12. Muscle is denser than fat. You can be trimming down and gaining weight.

I know one guy who worked out hard and got fantastic muscles. He's the exact weight he was when he was overweight and flab. Now he looks great.

A better measure than the scale is a belt. Put one around your waist so that it feels snug and walk around for at least 15 seconds and mark the location on the belt.
Don't check that again for at least a week and then see where you are.
