Not Sweating It

Charlotte had a post yesterday that linked to an interesting article about food intolerance. It got me thinking about all the bloating and constipation I deal with when I switch to a contest diet and increase my intake of vegetables, herbs/spices, nuts (peanut butter) and green tea. It seems that my diet is very high in the plant hormone Salicylates [Salicylates Food List].

I have always had the least digestive issues when I go super low carb and have limited vegetables. So today I am replacing some of my nut and vegetable carbs with whole grains. I had real butter on my pancakes this morning - it was damn good (I know butter is a bad fat and nut butter is a good fat but whatever!). I'm ditching the cinnamon and not smothering everything I eat in coriander and dill. It will be interesting to see what happens.

It was a very interesting read. It'll be interesting to see if there's any noticable change from switching some of your nutrition around Kate. :o)

  2. You freak me out sometimes - are we twins?

I am allergic to salicylates. Therefore I really struggle with a diet high in fruit and vegies, or high in flavour. Basically ginger and garlic are the only herb/spice type things I am supposed to eat. I say "supposed" to because I can tolerate a small amount of salicylate in my diet if my stress levels are low. I cannot take any form of aspirin at all - no anti inflamatories.

Salycilates are in so many things. Shampoo, skin products, sunscreen soap and anything containing preservatives. Look for benzoates in the ingredients list and avoid them. I make sure I avoid S in any product I can, so that my diet is a little easier. Let me know if you want to know the brands of the products I use. xx
