100 Day Challenge - Day 90 - The Pirate Council

Congratulations on making it through Phase One of the Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge. Please feel free to copy and paste your Parchment of Progress anywhere you like.

Here is the checklist for what you should have achieved in Phase One. If you have missed anything you can still catch up.
  • set your action goals -- found the map
  • officially signed up for the challenge -- signed the contract
  • recorded your daily progress -- created a task chart, log, journal (+ bonus bone)
  • supported your fellow team members -- commented on their blog posts (+ bonus bone)
  • reflected on your success -- mid phase challenge post (+ bonus bone)
  • resisted temptation and faced your fears -- fought the evil Pirate of Powerlessness
  • challenged your definition of failure -- held on to your Skinny Bones when you didn't really fail
Check In Process (*voluntary)
  • Fill in the Skinny Bones Tally spreadsheet in Google with your Skinny Bones tally for this phase (if you don't have access then add it to your comments)
Comment on this post with the following information
  • your milestones - e.g. weight loss, inches/cms lost, days without bingeing, physical improvements etc.
  • your victory over the Pirate of Powerlessness
  • what you are loving about this challenge
KatieP's Check In
  • I have 12 Skinny Bones (entered in the spreadsheet)
This is how I calculated it (you don't need to give me this detail - just a reminder so you don't forget those bonuses!)
+1 bonus bone - logged my progress
+1 bonus bone - commented on blogs
+1 bonus bone - mid point challenge (everyone who posted gets one)
+1 bonus bone - staying on track after eating at the pub
-1 not getting enough sleep
-1 not lasting 10 days without standing on the scales

  • I weighed in at 58.5kg. I have gone 10 days in a row - without a binge, sugar under 25g a day, getting out of the house, writing every day, training at least 4 x a week.
  • My major victory was breaking the habit of 'going for gold' for the rest of the day after eating out at the pub.
  • The thing I am loving the most is making this challenge up as we go along.
If you all check in as soon as you can, I will post a summary of our collective success tomorrow night (to allow for our overseas Pirates to get to day 90). Look for the Phase One Booty.

IMPORTANT
If you are only one or two days behind at this point, you can choose to skip to the end of Phase One now and then you will have the same day numbers as me. If you want to stay with your own count, just do the tasks on the day that they are posted. You will finish before/after the last week but by then I'll probably be out of ideas anyway!

MORE IMPORTANT
It is not too late to sign up for the Challenge and then complete Phase One and Phase Two together. After I post the Phase One Booty tomorrow I am closing off accepting official participants. You can still follow along without being signed up but unfortunately I won't be able to keep up with people at all different stages of the Challenge.

♥ Yo-ho-ho-ho -- we did it gang! First stage done!

100 Day Challenge - Day 91 - Phase One Recap and Prepare for the Pirate Council

A Brief Recap on the Skinny Bones Pirate Ideology

By taking on the Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge you will become the most famed and feared Pirate the world has even seen and finally defeat the legendary Pirate of Powerlessness.

You are ...
  • A Pirate of Potential
  • A Pirate of Power
  • A Pirate of Possibility
... and by navigating shrewdly, fighting mercilessly and plundering strategically you will gain fame and fortune

The Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge is all about behavioral change. If you practice positive actions for 100 days in a row, you will cement these changes into your subconscious until they become automatic. The first step is to choose which daily actions you will commit to doing every day for the next 100 days.

10 x 10 Days
The Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge is divided into 10 Phases of 10 days. Each Phase has a different pirate theme. Phase One -- X Marks the Spot is about finding the treasure map and setting off on your journey to claim the booty!

10 x Skinny Bones
The Skinny Bones Pirates of Potential use the currency of Skinny Bones. You have 10 Skinny Bones assigned to you at the beginning of the challenge. Skinny Bones are relinquished if you intentionally fail to carry out one of your planned actions. You don't need to be perfect to make it to the end, you just need a 90% success rate.

Bonus Bones
There are tasks set along the way to help you win back lost skinny bones or to keep a few extra in case of an unexpected difficult time.

Who's the Boss?
You are in control of your challenge at all times. You can decide to join the other Pirates on the Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge Blog, or you can just keep your journey private. The whole challenge is voluntary and you will never be kicked out or asked to leave. No one will be checking up on you because you are only accountable to yourself. You decide when you deserve to lose a Skinny Bone and you decide when you get a Bonus Bone. You can adjust your goals at any time. It is all a game designed to make changing your life fun, interesting and unpredictable.

Phase One Recap -- X Marks the Spot
Day 100 - It All Begins
Set up your goals for the next 100 days. Think about your nutrition, training, health, and emotions. Try not to have too many goals to work on at once or goals that are in conflict with one another.

Day 99 - Sign the Contract
Officially sign up for the challenge to demonstrate your commitment to seeing it through to the end. If you choose to post to the Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge Blog then you will be invited to be an author.

Day 98 - Bonus Bone : Buy Your Compass
Set up a way to record your progress. A calendar, an online goal program or your daily journal are all tools that can help you navigate shrewdly.

Day 97 - Bonus Bone : Join the Pirates Guild
Leave supportive and encouraging comments on your fellow Pirates blog posts or individual blogs.

Day 96 - Phase One Mid Point Challenge - Bonus Bone : Brag in the Tavern
Record your achievements for the first half of Phase One. Post them on the Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge Blog for a bonus bone.

Day 95 - Protect Your Skinny Bones
Don't surrender you Skinny Bones for things that you have no control over. You only fail a task when you intentionally chose not to do it. If you miss your goals through circumstances beyond your control, when you trade one goal for a better one or you make adjustments to your goal list your Skinny Bones remain intact.

Day 94 (or at any point in this Phase) - Fight the Evil Pirate of Powerlessness
Face your greatest fear and beat it. Resist temptation. Do something when you don't feel like it. Fight the evil Pirate and win.

Day 93 - Keeping Everything Ship Shape
Make sure you've filled in the official sign up form and you are on the list of Foundation Members. Evaluate your own actions to award yourself Bonus Bones. Use the text ♥Skinny Bones Phase One Tally = 12 to keep on track.

Day 92 - Prepare to Walk the Plank
From Phase Two, you will be invited to join me in walking the plank - to do something outside your comfort zone.

Think about what your walking the plank task might be - something you've never done before, something you are frightened of, something that is on your 'things to do' list or something you have been waiting to get skinny enough for.

What Happens Now?
Day 91 - Prepare for the First Pirates Council
Day 90 marks the completion of Phase One and the first Pirates Council. This post (the one you are reading now) reviews the highlights of this phase. You can catch up now if you have missed anything.

First thing tomorrow morning I will post my official Phase One check in. If you are finishing Phase One with me, or are close enough then you can add your information by commenting ON TOMORROW'S POST (it will help me if it is all in one place):

Check in information is:
  1. your Skinny Bones tally for this Phase (fill in the Skinny Bones Tally spreadsheet in Google if you have access otherwise add it to your comment)
  2. your milestones - e.g. weight loss, inches/cm lost, days without bingeing, physical improvements
  3. your victory over the Pirate of Powerlessness
  4. what you are loving about this challenge so far
Day 90 - See you tomorrow at the Pirate Council for Phase One and the start of Phase Two. Don't forget to weigh in in the morning if you are tracking your weight at the end of this Phase. If you are weighing weekly, just let me know what your progress was at your weekly weigh in.

So get cracking on those tasks and challenges so you can get your Skinny Bones tally up.

Shiver me Timbers ... I'm excited ♥

100 Day Challenge - Day 92 - Prepare to Walk the Plank

Think of all the times in your life that you can remember vividly. They are usually times when you were did something for the first time, you achieved something that was hard to accomplish or you connected with someone else with heightened emotions (pleasant and unpleasant).

We remember our first day at school, our first date, completing a marathon, standing on a figure contest stage, fitting into a size 8, our wedding day, the birth of our first child and the death of someone we loved.

Make this journey memorable
In order to make this particular 100 day journey remarkable and memorable, I am going to challenge myself to do one thing out of my comfort zone every 10 days. I acknowledge that this is scary and confronting so there is no pressure on anyone to follow my example. This activity will be known as 'walking the plank'.

If you are brave enough to come along with me, then you can share your experience or choose to keep it private. All I am asking right now is that you think about what things you could do in the next 90 days that will have significance for you.

They don't have to be momentous, earth shattering moments, just small punctuation marks in your life.

How will you remember this time of your life?
Here are some ideas to get your imagination firing.

During the Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge I ...
  • ... wore shorts for the first time in public
  • ... wore a crop top without a singlet at the gym for the first time
  • ... completed a 5km fun run
  • ... got my belly button pierced
  • ... talked to my sister after 2 years of silence
  • ... handed in my resignation
  • ... sang in public
  • ... finished my degree
  • ... finally walked away
  • ... said what I really thought
Taking Action
This 100 Day Challenge is not about weight loss or muscle size. It is about taking action. And every time you choose to act in a way that improves your sense of self worth and respect, the momentum builds and your confidence grows.

Use that sense of empowerment you are experiencing right now to start confronting the hard stuff. Take advantage of the unique energy that comes from more than 30 women collectively working on the same shared hopes and dreams. For the next 92 days you are part of a huge, powerful family who will support you, encourage you, and be there to catch you if you fall.

Prepare to move beyond ordinary into extraordinary -- prepare to walk the plank.

100 Day Challenge - Four More Members

The Skinny Bones 100 Day Challenge is the talk of the blogosphere! Today we have 4 new lovely ladies signed up. Please welcome ...

Liimu said...Is it too late to join the challenge? I would love to lose 20 lbs in 100 days - to get to my goal of being under 150 pounds (currently 166.5).
Can I join? [of course - KatieP]

Donna said...Hi Katie
Have just recently started my blog & i have just this week started my own little challenge, What you have set up is fantastic & I would love to join your 100 day challenge.

Chunkmonkey (Jenna) said...Hi Katie,
I just sent you an email-I love this idea for a challenge and would love to join! Thank you for thinking of this.

Trudi said...Katie P has a 100 day challenge going and I am doing my bit also.
100 days without toast
100 days drinking 2 litres of water
100 days of giving my kids more hugs
100 days of finding a quiet moment in the day to do NOTHING...just be quiet

Phew! Now I've lost count of how many people there are - over 20! Everyone who has a blog is on the blogroll on the sidebar.

I keep running out of hours in the day to get all my goals achieved and keep up with you lot! Never mind, I'll just remove the "get enough sleep" goal and I'll be good.

Today is half way through Phase One if you started on Sunday - how are you going? What are you most proud of these past 5 days?

I am proud that I have stayed on plan and been relatively nice even though I have raging PMT and I wish you would all bugger off and leave me alone I could just hide away from the entire world until my fucked body decides what it is doing. I read somewhere that women would lose weight as quickly as men if it wasn't for our freakin' hormones.

That reminds me of an old joke ... How do you make a hormone [whore moan]?
Nah ... someone else has to post the punch line ... I'm trying to be nice.

100 Day Challenge - Day 99 - Phase One

Yesterday was a good day with training, blogging, writing and eating well.

I won't be able to write an article today because I have to stay late at work (unless I get time to sneak something in while I'm there) but I will catch up Tuesday when I will write 2. It is a walking only day so I'll have a bit of extra time tomorrow morning before work.

Sandra has joined the challenge ...Hey Katie,
I'm in!
Using this as a trial run to decide whether or not Figure Comps are something I would do.
Plan is to give it 100% for 100 days and checkout the results.
Will post detailed goals as/if I come up with them.

I think that is a brilliant idea.

Also welcome CathyC ...Hi again, I forgot to mention my "challenge":
I am starting HRT-progesterone cream for the next 2 months tomorrow and in order for me to feel better...
1-I need to relax and not "stress" and keep a balanced diet of moderate carbs, low fat and clean snacks. Avoid excess sugar except for PMS-will use my 10 skinny bones-love that!
2-keep fit-strength training 4 times a week
I need your encouragement ladies!!

Sometimes thinking in terms of big number (100 days) is a bit overwhelming so I am going to break it down for everyone into blocks of 10 days (Phases). I also think that is a good chunk of time to leave between weigh ins if that is what you are doing.

So for Phase One, the bonus tasks* are :

(1) Set up a way to record your progress. It can be as simple as stars on a calendar or as complex as one of my convoluted spreadsheets. Put a line at the end of your 10 days and aim for 10 great days in a row -- 10 stars, 10 ticks, 10 skinny bones still in your bank.

(2) In the next 10 day period you need to leave a single comment on each of your fellow team members' blogs (just one comment for each person across the whole of Phase 1 - not one every single day) . If they don't have a blog, you can leave it on my blog so they get to see it.

Bonus bones are up for grabs -- now I need to go and make an appropriate picture ...

Have a great day -- I bet you are already kicking arse!!

*bonus tasks are completely optional
